SUMMARY:
The EC marketing signifies that this product meets the fundamental provisions laid down by the European Directive 89/686/EEC relating to PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) concerning: – innocuousness – comfort – strength – protection against the risk of falls caused by slipping – the model of safety footwear has undergone an EC type examination by an authorised body. The EN 17249 marking stamped on the product guarantees:
A level of performance in terms of the comfort and strength defined by a harmonised standard.
The presence of a protective toe cap for the toes which protects against impacts such as the before mentioned.
Chainsaw protection material to protect against cut with a chainsaw.
It is necessary to emphasise that no individual protection device can ensure 100% protection from handheld chainsaw cuts. However, experience has shown that it is possible to plan equipment that offers a certain level of protection. Different functional principles can be used to provide protection, including the following:
Chain slipping on contact, so that it cannot cut the material.
An accumulation of fibres which stop the machine once they enter the chain gears.
Slowing the chain down by using fibres with a high cut resistance which can absorb the rotation energy, thereby reducing the chain speed.
Often more than one principle is applied.
It is necessary to remember that the protection area must extend at least 195mm above the foot straps in order to guarantee an overlap between the footwear and the trousers with no relation to the size of the footwear.
